The World’s Largest King Cobra
The average size of a living room is 16ft by 20ft. This means that if you look at the wall and see a snake, it could be a King Cobra. It all depends on where you live and whether there have been escapees from the local Zoo. King Cobras can be found in Southeast Asia and India. The average length of a King Cobra is 9-12 feet, but some are larger. King Cobras are the longest and most venomous snakes in the world. They get their frightening name because they have been known to eat other snakes, including 10ft-long pythons! They are venomous snakes and can use their fangs and puncture prey to release venom. This venom paralyzes the prey and allows them to swallow it whole. Let’s look at some of our largest King Cobras to see how large they were.
First, King Cobras aren’t Cobras.
The King cobras do not belong to the Naja group of snakes. This means that they are not cobras like the Egyptian cobra.
You won’t see “King Cobras” if you look at the species of cobras. Although they are related to the Naja serpents, they belong to a separate group called Ophiophagus. They are known as snake eaters and most often eat cobras. King cobras share many of the same physical characteristics as other cobras, including being longer snakes and creating a fanned cover around their heads when threatened. To make them look more threatening, they can raise the front third of their slithery bodies from the ground.
What was the largest King Cobra ever?
The London Zoo displayed the longest known king cobra, measuring nearly 19 feet.
The second World War saw the first recorded King Cobra measuring 5.7m (18.8ft) in length. According to Guinness World Records, this snake was captured in Malaysia in April 1937. The snake’s size attracted a lot of attention. It was then moved to London Zoo to be seen more. This snake was unfortunately born during World War II when many zoos had the hard decision to kill their animals to protect the public from escaped animals following bombings. The story of the Warsaw Zoo is told in The Zookeepers Wife. It tells how they attempted to save as many animals during this period.
Are King Cobras The Longest Snakes In the World?
King cobras may not be the longest snakes, but pythons can live much longer. Pythons don’t bite, but they can wrap their arms around prey until it stops breathing and then dies. Indian Pythons can reach 20 feet in length! They can also grow up to 150lbs and are thicker than cobras. Burmese Pythons can reach 23 feet in length and even be found in Florida. Although they are not native to the United States, many have been released or escaped to establish a large breeding population. Yikes!
The reticulated python is the longest snake globally, measuring up to 29 feet and weighing 500lbs. These snakes are found in India, Borneo and Indonesia. According to the Guinness Book of Records, the longest snake recorded was a 32-foot long reticulated Python from Indonesia in 1912. It measured 10 yards across a football field.
Are King Cobras The Heaviest Snakes?
Anacondas are one of the largest snakes in the world.
King Cobras, while the longest venomous snake, aren’t very heavy. King Cobras are lighter snakes, weighing in at around 15-20lbs. They are not as scary as some other non-venomous snakes. The Green Anaconda is just a little heavier at 550lbs, while the Reticulated Pythons can reach 500lbs. These huge snakes can eat a crocodile. They will also eat capybara, deer, and pigs. Consider the size of a deer you may have seen in your yard or at the park. Green Anacondas could eat these for dinner.

The longest venomous snake is the king cobra.
Yes! Yes! They are approximately 9-12 feet (3-4 m) in height. They are one of the most venomous snakes. This is not due to the high concentration of venom but the sheer size of their population. An elephant can be killed in hours by the venom they produce.
What are other Venomous snakes,
King Cobras bite their prey with their fangs and release their venom. However, other snakes spit their poison at their victims far away. There are many species of spitting snakes, including the Equatorial spitting cobra, Mozambique spitting cobra and the Indochinese poisonous cobra.
People should be wary of the saw-scaled viper, a deadly snake. This snake is aggressive and may bite multiple times at once. These snakes are the leading cause of human death. Even though only 10% of victims are treated, it is crucial to seek immediate treatment.
The “fierce snake” western taipan has the highest concentrations of venom. It also has a cocktail of poisons that can paralyze and cause hemorrhaging. Mice and other rodents are their most common victims.
Did any Snakes Escape Zoos in the Last Year?
Yes! Many news stories are about snakes that escape from aquariums and zoos. An anonymous writer set up a Twitter account for an Egyptian Cobra in New York, where she posted comments about her adventures on the run. Egyptian Cobras can be venomous, so there was reason to be concerned. However, the snake was discovered six days later in safe conditions, not far from its cage.
