These are the 10 most popular pets in AUSTRALIA
Our data shows that Australians love their pets! Australia has one of the highest pet ownership rates globally, with more than 25,000,000 pets. According to PIAA (Pet Industry Association), more than 36% of Australian households have pets. 36% of these people are dog owners, while 29% have cats. 59% of those who do not currently own pets say they would love to one day.
An Australian household with a dog or cat is more common than one with a child. Australia has a ratio of around 101 to 100 pets to human companions. We consider them part of our family. 20% of Gen Y pet owners have emergency accounts or pet insurance, compared to only 12% for Baby Boomers.
We love our pets. But what are our favourite pets? These are the top 10 Australian pets:
1) Dog
Dogs are, unsurprisingly, the most popular pet. Nearly two-fifths of households (or 3.6 million) have a dog.
2) Cat
The next most popular pet is the cat, with almost three-quarters of ten households (about 2.72 million) having one.
3) Fish
It may be surprising to some, but the country has 8.7 million pet fish. Fish are great pets for small spaces and areas with strict pet regulations, such as colourful or gentle Molly fish.
4) Bird
Birds can thrive in small spaces. This makes them ideal for those who live in apartments and other strata areas. There is a species for everyone. Small, easy-to-care-for, and perfect for beginners, breeds such as finches, cockatiels and budgies can be found. A cockatoo or macaw is a good choice if looking for a bird with speech and intelligence. If they are affectionate pets, cockatiels and Cockatoos will bond more with you than Budgies or Budgies.
5) Rabbit
Rabbits are not low-maintenance pets, but they can still be used as family pets. Although rabbits are affectionate and can be very affectionate, rabbits’ personalities vary. Some bunnies love to be held and picked up, while others are more reserved.
6) Turtle
Although turtles can be cared for quite easily, they require special equipment and a different diet than other furry friends. They can live for many years and make interesting pets and unique pets.
7) Horse
Horses can be expensive and complex animals to keep as pets. Although they aren’t as cuddly or compact as other pets, many people keep horses as pets. You should give your horse plenty of space to run and play if you consider keeping them as a pet. Horses are also more costly for various reasons, including grooming and vet care. If you love horses, they will be your best friend.
8) Snake
It’s not as difficult as you might think to care for a snake. Your snake will be happy if you provide a healthy diet, a heat-regulated environment, and something to curl around.
9) Ferret
A ferret is a cute and unusual pet that can be cuddled. Ferrets are intelligent, curious and wonderful pets. You might find them a bit nippy so make sure to ask your breeder if they nip-train ferrets.
10) Bearded Dragon
The Australian bearded dragon is a medium-sized reptile that beginners can easily manage. Because they are less responsible than cats and dogs, have smaller living arrangements and prefer small reptiles and mammals, many Australians keep them as pets. They do require complex environmental and nutritional requirements.
