Optimum Dog Food Review

You may be surprised to learn that Optimum does not exist as a brand of Mars. It’s a cheaper option than Advance, which was later linked to corn crop disease. We’ll be reviewing Optimum dry dog food. However, the other varieties of grain are equally unhealthy. Although they have a slightly better wheat-free product, it’s nothing to write about.

What does marketing say?

We found information on the Optimum website about stools made with wholegrains, beet pulp, and other natural fibres. This helps to control intestinal transit and maximize nutrient absorption. This makes sense for the manufacturer as it is a good indicator of the dog’s health.

The bag contains a list with “benefits”, including “bioavailability”,’strengthens immunity system”, “healthy skin & hair”, “healthy digestion”, as well as “OPTIMUM Dental Defense”, which is a trademarked term.

What does the label really say?

First, does not mean that the ingredients are included in large quantities. This simply means that these ingredients must be present in a small quantity. This is how the Aussie pet food labelling regulations define “with”.

poultry by-products are the first ingredients. However, the combined weight of the two next ingredients will probably outweigh the meat 2:2. The 47% carbs and 26% protein are supporting this claim. These two ingredients are a somewhat ambiguous list of grains that favor the lowest inclusions in both cases. They are wheat, and corn. The marketing hype is starting to be starkly opposed.

The vegetable are listed at the bottom of the ingredients list, next to salt. This will make up about 1% of the food. Do you like the idea of 1% vegetables?

Beet pulp can be found in many dog food recipes to harden stool and trick you into thinking your dog is healthy.

Vegetable Oil is one the most affordable oils for “healthy skin and coat”. There are more premium dry dog foods, including better options like flaxseed, coconut oil, and salmon oil.

It’s worth looking for something else if your dog gets itchy or scratchy from this food. You can switch to dry dog food that is far superior, even from Mars.

Other formulas of Optimum dry food are almost identical, like Adult Beef.

Optimum Puppy review

Many Australian breeders seem to be under the Optimum spell. Many Australian dogs begin their lives on the brand. Ask your breeder about any deals they have with Optimum. They’ll probably tell you about discounts and free dog food bags. But breeders aren’t dog nutritionists so they won’t often consider what is actually in the product.

What is Optimum Puppy? It’s pretty much the same formula as Optimum Adult. However, it is slightly modified to be used as a puppy formula. When you take into account the top four cereal grain ingredients (which is most likely the bulk of the product), it’s still 3 of 4 ingredients. This is the most crucial stage in your dog’s development.

I spoke to someone today who had a dog that developed itchy paws after consuming Optimum Puppy. Ironically, Mars is also recommended by his vet. His vet did not recommend that he examine the root cause of the condition. This would have meant that the pet owner was locked into the hypoallergenic brand for the rest of their lives.

I advised the owner to look at the ingredients of the dog’s diet. The fact that Optimum Puppy contains wheat is just one red flag. The vet-approved hypoallergenic formula was not magical. It was formulated primarily from corn and does not contain the likes wheat or other meat-protein triggers.
