Scratch Dog Food
Scratch offers a customized home delivery service for your dog. Their website was the first thing that I noticed. It’s amazing.
You can create a profile by providing information about your dog (name, gender, age, breed, weight, and activity level). They will then recommend a delivery schedule. They offer free shipping to Sydney and Melbourne. I believe that they are looking into expanding their distribution.
Their business philosophy is to provide transparency, which is a welcome thing in such a volatile industry. As you can see, they list percentages in their ingredients. This is something that all manufacturers should do. It really shows the truth. Not many do.
Scratch Dog Food
The majority of the food is composed of three ingredients: Kangaroo and Broad Beans. They are all fairly equal in proportions. This is because many supermarket brands use less meat and more legumes. You can also find more expensive brands that have a higher meat percentage. This food is somewhere in between. It is comparable and slightly less expensive than Black Hawk Grain-Free.
It is possible to feed broad beans too often, but smart pet food industry professionals tested them and found that they can be fed in moderation. They also hold up well when made into kibble. They are a cheap alternative to meat and bulk up the protein content. This has nothing to do with the quality of the ingredient. Constant feeding may be the problem, considering that nearly a third of this food contains broad beans and almost two-thirds are legumes. This is why we recommend a mixed-diary diet.
Some nice additions can be found further down the ingredients list. There are four kinds of oil: flaxseeds, flaxseeds, coconut, sunflower and salmon. All will improve well-being, skin and coat health. DHA is added to support the brain and body. You will also find a few other carefully chosen ingredients, including the amazing turmeric that has endless health benefits. It is also great to not use chemical/sulphite preservers or other nasty additives.
This food has one real drawback: the large amount of legumes. However, Scratch could be worth adding to a rotating menu.
